Liverpool suspend season ticket renewal process due to coronavirus uncertainty

Liverpool have suspended their scheduled Premier League season ticket renewal process due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Supporters eligible to purchase a ticket for the 2020-21 campaign were due to be contacted by the Merseyside club in the coming weeks.

However, that annual process has now been pushed back as a result of uncertainty around when football might resume.

A new date for the sale is set to be confirmed in due course, with the Reds insisting they will “provide as much notice as possible” to fans in that regard.

In a statement, Liverpool also reiterated their desire to complete the current season when it is deemed safe to do so.

Jurgen Klopp’s side held a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League prior to the Covid-19 pandemic forcing its suspension.

Due to the financial value of television rights deals, English football’s governing bodies remain keen to finish off the current campaign rather than declare it null and void.

But it now seems increasingly likely that the remaining games will be played behind closed doors due to safety concerns.

If that were to happen, Liverpool have insisted that they will issue a full refund to all season ticket holders and members in possession of tickets for those fixtures.

This can either be reclaimed in cash, or as a credit towards next season’s tickets.

Alternatively, should the games be able to take place with supporters in attendance, then all tickets will be transferable to the rescheduled dates.

The club’s statement concludes: “As the situation continues to evolve, we will continue to keep supporters updated with any developments relating to the current season and the 2020-21 season.

“We would like to thank our supporters for their understanding and patience during this challenging time. Our thoughts are with you all at this time and we hope all our supporters are staying safe and at home.”
