Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly speak out after Manchester United ticket change

Spirit of Shankly have vowed to 'oppose any increases in this extremely difficult climate' as season ticket price rises have been announced by some clubs.

Manchester United have recently informed their supporters they will be putting the price of their season tickets up by 5% for the next campaign after recent rise in costs.

However, the Old Trafford club have been criticised for this rise as many fans are feeling the effects of the cost of living crisis that has currently gripped the United Kingdom.

After over a decade of price freezes at United, fans will now have to pay more for their season tickets as they blame the rising costs as a factor in their decision.

Matt Slater of the Athletic reported: "It’s a corner flag, so it must be bad news. After 11 years of price freezes, Man Utd are putting adult season tickets up by 5%. They say costs are 40% up over last 5yrs, 11% this year. Other clubs expected to do the same, if they haven’t already done so."

Liverpool Supporters Union, Spirit of Shankly, said: "In a cost of living crisis with so many supporters struggling to keep afloat, the idea of increasing ticket prices is something football supporters should collectively reject & campaign against. Spirit of Shankly will oppose any increases in this extremely difficult climate."
