Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah storms clear of Erling Haaland and level with Robert Lewandowski in Golden Boot race

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has pulled level with Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski in the race for the European Golden boot.

Salah inspired the Reds to a stunning 5-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, netting a brilliant hat-trick.

The treble saw him move to 10 Premier League goals for the season and it makes it 10 games in a row in which Salah has found the back of the net in all competitions.

The manner of the victory for the Reds at Old Trafford sent shockwaves around European football and cemented Salah's status as the best player on the planet at the moment. Liverpool are just a point back on Premier League leaders Chelsea after the iconic win.

Salah wasn't the only big-name player to move into double figures for the season though, as Lewandowski was on target in the Bundesliga. The Poland international found the net once for the German giants in their 4-0 win over Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena.

Lewandowski is the current holder of the Golden Boot prize, after scoring 41 Bundesliga goals last season and accumulating 82.0 Golden Shoe points.

Both players are now a goal ahead of Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland, as the forward sat out his team's 3-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld. The Norwegian has an incredible nine goals from six games so far this season.

Real Madrid's Karim Benzema also has nine goals in La Liga, although he didn't find the net in his team's 2-1 Clasico win over Barcelona.

Lazio's Ciro Immobile and Bayer Leverkusen's Patrik Schick both have eight goals, putting them next in the standings from players in European football's top five leagues.

Every European league has been assigned a difficulty coefficient by UEFA between one and two, which is multiplied by a player's goal tally to give them a points total.

For example, goals in the Turkish Super Lig have a rating of 1.5 and Salah's goals in the Premier League have a coefficient of 2.0.

Lionel Messi has won the award a record six times, with Cristiano Ronaldo a four-time victor.
