Liverpool suffer fresh injury blow for RB Leipzig Champions League clash

Liverpool look set to be without the injured Roberto Firmino for their second trip to Budapest to take on RB Leipzig.

The second leg of the pair's Champions League tie takes place in the Hungarian capital on Wednesday, with Liverpool as the designated 'home' team just three weeks after they were considered the 'away' team for the first leg in the same stadium.

Both matches are being played in Budapest due to coronavirus restrictions, with Leipzig's players having had to quarantine for 10 days upon their arrival back in Germany had the game gone ahead at Anfield.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg last month, but the pair seemingly won't be joined by their long-term fellow forward partner Firmino in Hungary, with the Brazilian carrying a knee injury.

Firmino missed Liverpool's defeat at home to Fulham on Sunday, and wasn't seen in training with the group in Kirkby on Tuesday ahead of their flight to Budapest.

Ozan Kabak did train though, and he is set to feature in defence having missed the defeat to Fulham.

Jurgen Klopp remains confident that his side can make their way through to the last eight despite their awful recent domestic form, which has featured defeats in all of their last six Anfield matches.

Asked if he remains confident that Liverpool can win the Champions League, he replied: "Yes, there are two things [why we can win it], the quality and football in general.

"You always have a chance in the next game. It's half-time, we have to play the game.

"I have no doubt about us. We will give it a proper fight. We have 95 mins to use."
