Liverpool suffer fresh injury blow as Curtis Jones ruled out of Norwich City opener

Curtis Jones has been ruled out of Liverpool's opening game of the season against Norwich City after sustaining concussion against Osasuna on Monday.

Jones was taken off during the first half of his side’s pre-season friendly win against the Spanish side following a nasty head collision.

And the club have now confirmed that as a result of the midfielder sustaining concussion in the collison, he will miss Saturday’s game at Carrow Road.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed though that Jones is now feeling well again, but will not resume training until after this weekend’s game in line with concussion protocols.

“He had a slight concussion so we just have to follow the protocol,” the manager told Liverpoolfc.com. “He is fine, he feels fine again, but that’s the protocol. He is available for training from Sunday on I think.”

Andy Robertson will also miss the game - and the start of the new season - having picked up an ankle ligament injury in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao.

But apart from Jones and Robertson, Klopp has confirmed that his side have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener.

He said: “No, not from an injury point of view. But yeah, a few players had a shorter pre-season than others. No, all the others are healthy.”
