Liverpool’s pre-season training camp in Austria is set to continue despite reports of a positive case of coronavirus.
The Reds are currently at their Saalfelden camp as they prepare for the season-opening Community Shield clash against Arsenal.
The Gunners are set to face Jurgen Klopp’s side at Wembley on August 29, before 2020/21 Premier League campaign gets underway on September 12.
Reports that an unnamed member of Liverpool’s camp has been diagnosed with COVID-19 though will place some doubt on the annual curtain-raiser.
The Reds made the last-minute decision to fly to Austria on Saturday after the UK government added France to their quarantine list, ruling out their initial plans to head to Evian-les-bains as in previous years.
Klopp has instead been putting his players through their paces at the base in the Austrian Alps as they prepare to defend their Premier League title next season.
Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung broke the news of a potential positive test for the virus on Tuesday morning, although the news hasn’t been confirmed by the club yet.
Nevertheless, the Liverpool Echo report that the Reds’ training camp will continue as normal, meaning the Community Shield should be able to go ahead as planned.
Speaking last month, Klopp said: "The boys can go on holiday, obviously, and we know from everybody where they will go, and it’s all OK – these countries are all completely fine.
"But the situation can change, constantly, so now this is the responsibility of the boys. They must make sure they know when they have to leave the specific country.
"They have to follow the news and they have to react. It is not our job to say: ‘Maybe Spain closes the border again,’ or whatever. The boys are responsible for that, and they know that as well.”
The news comes after Liverpool had cancelled a pre-season training camp in Evian, France due to the UK Government's quarantine reules.
