Liverpool striker puts pen to paper on new Anfield contract

Liverpool striker Joe Hardy has signed a new contract at the club.

Hardy was snapped up in January from Brentford for an undisclosed fee, initially on a six-month basis to help bolster the under-23s strikeforce.

The Academy side had struggled to field a recognised centre forward during the first half of the season, a situation exacerbated by Rhian Brewster's loan move Championship side Swansea City.

Hardy scored seven goals in seven games for the U23s before the campaign was suspended and ultimately terminated due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The 21-year-old, who hails from Kirkby, also made his senior debut when emerging as a late substitute in the FA Cup fourth round replay win over Shrewsbury Town at Anfield in February.

Now his stay at Liverpool, which was due to finish at the end of the month, has now been extended.

Hardy started his career at Manchester City before moving to Brentford in 2017, where he scored 40 goals in 80 appearances for their B team.
