Liverpool striker makes comeback from injury as midfielder serves reminder

Paul Glatzel made his return from injury as Liverpool came from behind twice to earn a Premier League 2 point at Blackburn Rovers.

Glatzel, who had previously played for only 12 minutes since November after an initial ankle ligament problem, came through a 20-minute run-out in the 2-2 draw at Leyland on Monday evening.

The forward laid on an assist for Leighton Clarkson to score his first goal since September with three minutes remaining and secure a point for Barry Lewtas's under-23s after Ben Woodburn had levelled shortly after half-time.

Liverpool goalkeeper Liam Hughes made three good saves in the first half before being beaten on 33 minutes when, after a short corner, Jake Garrett's cross from the left was turned in by Isaac Whitehall.

The visitors levelled four minutes after the interval. In a role reversal of Liverpool's second goal at Manchester City the previous week, Joe Hardy nicked the ball off a defender high up the field and crossed for Woodburn to score.

Blackburn regained the lead on 64 minutes when Whitehall grabbed his second after being fed by Joe Nolan.

But Liverpool's late pressure paid off as Clarkson earned a share of the spoils by firing home after being fed by Glatzel.

Liverpool U23s are next in Premier League 2 action on Friday when they are at Tottenham Hotspur (kick-off 12pm).

LIVERPOOL U23s: Hughes, Gallacher, Beck, Clayton, Boyes, Clarkson, Cain, Dixon-Bonner (Morton 81), Hardy (O’Rourke 77), Longstaff (Glatzel 70), Woodburn. Subs: Mrozek, Savage.
