Liverpool strengthen squad further as Champions League winners return to Melwood

Liverpool's pre-season preparations have been bolstered further by the return of four Champions League winners.

Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum all reported back to Melwood on Saturday morning after their summer breaks.

The quartet were all in action last month in the UEFA Nations League, with Holland beating England in the semi-final before losing to hosts Portgual. England beat Switzerland on penalties to clinch third place.

Jurgen Klopp is now missing only five senior players, with Sadio Mane still on international duty with Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations, while Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah are on holiday following their participation in the same tournament and Brazil duo Alisson Becker and Roberto Firmino are on a break after winning the Copa America last weekend.

Dejan Lovren, though, is primed to play after sitting out Thursday's opening friendly at Tranmere Rovers.

Liverpool opened their pre-season programme with a 6-0 win at Prenton Park.
