Liverpool store giving away free pancakes topped with scouse today

A pop-up stall will be offering free pancakes topped with Scouse to celebrate Pancake Day.

Jack's Supermarket in Edge Hill will be serving up the Scouse pancakes to celebrate the Liverpool classic as one of the best British dishes according to a poll carried out by the supermarket chain.

The poll was launched by Jack’s, part of the Tesco family, who wanted to discover which dishes are considered to be the very best of British.

Savoury dishes dominated the top 10 including Scouse, pease pudding and the traditional Cornish pasty, with only three sweet options making the top spots; Bakewell Tart, Welsh cakes and the classic Devonshire cream tea of scones, jam and clotted cream.

To celebrate Pancake Day, Jack's will be serving up free Scouse pancakes made from Jack's fresh produce, in their pop-up cafe in Liverpool city centre.

The hearty Scouse dish, made from lamb or beef with lots of vegetables, is a Liverpool institution and has been a favourite on household dinner tables for generations.

The free pancakes will be given away across lunchtime today (Tuesday, February 25) on Church Street outside Carphone Warehouse between 12 and 2pm. There will also be chocolate spread pancakes available for vegetarians.
