Liverpool step up Diogo Jota pursuit as Jurgen Klopp transfer wish granted

Jurgen Klopp has indicated Liverpool are not done in the transfer market as the Premier League champions stepped up their pursuit of Wolves forward Diogo Jota.

The Reds confirmed on Friday the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich on a four-year contract after agreeing an initial £20million deal.

He became the second major arrival this summer following the capture of left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos for £11.7m.

Now Liverpool have turned their attentions to further strengthening their squad with talks advancing with Wolves over Jota.

The Reds had also taken a look at Watford winger Ismaila Sarr but decided on making Jota their number one priority ahead of the October 5 deadline with Klopp understood to be a huge admirer of the versatile frontman.

Talks with Wolves are underway and Liverpool are confident a deal can be sealed as they aim to complete a busy week of transfer talks in style.

The 23-year-old, who has 44 goals in 131 appearance for the Midlanders, can play both down the centre and on the left with Klopp keen to bolster his attacking options to established front three Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool are already in transfer talks with Wolves over the sale of defender Ki-Jana Hoever, who the world champions value in excess of £10m. Any deal for Jota would be separate to that move.

And Klopp has indicated the Reds need further fresh faces as they look to build on last season's Premier League triumph.

"To write the next chapter we have actually to create a new story, and for a new story you need new actors as well," said the Reds boss to liverpoolfc.com.

"We knew that always, but we don’t go for some actor just to have different guys, we want to have the right guys in and then everything is fine.

"That’s what we always tried to do. Let’s just write a new story. That’s it.

"For this, we all have to push ourselves and yes, each bit of quality we can get helps us with that."
