Liverpool stay and play café Motherhood Coffee with play area, classrooms and cinema

There are plenty of coffee shops and cafes in Liverpool, but not many cater to children as well as adults.

Motherhood Coffee in West Derby is the ideal spot for families, as while the adults enjoy a hot cuppa, the kids can play in a picket fenced area, take part in a variety of classes, or enjoy a film.

The 'stay and play' coffee shop has a breakfast, brunch and children’s menu, offering a variety of options from bagels and paninis to soups and cakes. They also use local coffee supplier Crosby Coffee.

Speaking to the ECHO, owner Jemma said: “Starting my own business came about when I was looking for activities that I could do which embraced me being a mother to three small children whilst also being able to find some time to see friends and family.

“Other than being outside during the cold winters or inviting friends and their children to my house, the options were relatively limited of places we could go to socialise with our kids.

"Having a play area within the coffee shop came about to help incorporate socialising with friends whilst allowing the children to play in a safe surrounding on-looked by ourselves. Our main play area is aimed towards babies and small children which gives them a safe setting with a calm atmosphere that a larger soft play area doesn’t offer."

The classrooms at Motherhood Coffee can be used by adults as well as children.

“Having the classes has given our customers an added experience of coming to a coffee shop with their children. They now have an opportunity to come to any of our groups and spend that special time with their little ones. Many of the parents also like to stay for a coffee and a catch up after the class.

“The most rewarding thing about opening the business is seeing new mums and children making friends and swapping numbers, as well as seeing parents and grandparents spending quality time together.”
