Adrian will make his first Premier League start of the season for Liverpool this evening with Alisson Becker facing a spell on the sidelines.
Alisson didn’t travel with the Reds squad for the game at Aston Villa after suffering a shoulder injury during training.
The selection of Adrian in goal is one of two changes from the team that beat Arsenal 3-1 at home in Liverpool’s last Premier League outing on Monday.
With Sadio Mane joining Thiago Alcantara in testing positive for coronavirus this week, new signing Diogo Jota makes his first top-flight start for the club on the left wing.
Rumours over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s fitness were unfounded with the right-back lining up alongside Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson in defence.
Fabinho, Gini Wijaldum and Naby Keita make up the midfield, with Mohamed Salah – one of three starters to begin Thursday’s Carabao Cup loss to Arsenal – and Roberto Firmino joining Jota in the forward line.
Young Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is among the substitutes, with skipper Jordan Henderson also on the bench.
For Aston Villa, former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, on loan from Chelsea, is in the starting line-up.
Liverpool (4-3-3): Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Jota.
Subs: Kelleher, Milner, Henderson, Jones, Minamino, Origi, N. Williams.
Aston Villa: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett, McGinn, Luiz, Barkley, Trezeguet, Watkins, Grealish.
