Liverpool start of season date confirmed after FA decision

Liverpool have discovered when they will start next season after the date for the Community Shield was confirmed.

The Premier League champions will take on either Arsenal or Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, August 29 in the traditional curtain-raiser for the new campaign.

The London duo meet in the FA Cup final on Saturday with the winners going on to face Jurgen Klopp's side.

A statement from the Football Association said the kick-off time and broadcast details will be announced in due course.

There is also a chance some supporters could be allowed into Wembley for the match with the FA looking to use some games as a trial before the expected return of fans inside stadiums in October.

That, though, would require Government approval and would most likely see the 90,000-capacity venue only a quarter full at most.

Only Manchester United have made more appearances in the Community Shield - formerly known as the Charity Shield - than the 15 Liverpool have accrued, with the Reds' last win coming against Chelsea in 2006.

Klopp revealed at the weekend that Liverpool's players will be given a fortnight off before returning to training at Melwood in the middle of next month.

The Premier League campaign will begin on the weekend of September 12.
