Liverpool stars get back to work in pre-season training camp

Liverpool's players got their pre-season underway at a training camp in the Austrian hills just seven weeks after being crowned Premier League champions.

The Reds ended their three decade wait for a league title in record breaking fashion after what has been a hugely extended season.

But they have had little time to celebrate their success having only concluded their season with a win at Newcastle just over three weeks ago.

Jurgen Klopp's side have headed to Salzburg to begin their preparations for the new season which starts on September 12.

The fixture list has not yet been released but Liverpool will be the scalp everyone is trying to claim as they begin a Premier League campaign with the tag of champions for the first time.

In the past decade only Manchester City have retained their crown which underlines the magnitude of the task ahead of them.

But Klopp has already spoken about the approach he and his side will take towards the upcoming season.

"We will not defend the title next season; we'll attack the next one," he said.

"I have learned when you think you have reached the pinnacle, you are already on the way down.

"City will be strong next season, [Manchester] United will be strong next season, Chelsea will be strong."

Will Liverpool retain the Premier League ? Have your say below

The Reds stuck rather than twisting when it came to their squad last summer with very few new faces arriving at Anfield.

Liverpool managed to retain all their star players and may strengthen in the coming weeks with Bayern Munich's Thiago a target.

The midfielder wants to quit the German giants and they are prepared to sanction his exit should their valuation be met.

A new central defender may also be arriving at Anfield following the departure of Dejan Lovren with Brighton's Ben White linked following an impressive loan spell at Leeds.

Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas is their only summer arrival thus far following his £11.75m from Olympiacos
