Liverpool starlet sets Andy Robertson target after Kostas Tsimikas claim

Liverpool youngster Owen Beck was in a good mood after helping the Reds win their first match of pre-season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side claimed a 1-0 victory over Mainz on Friday night, with an own goal from Luca Kilian proving to be the difference between the two sides.

The Reds boss named two different line-ups for the friendly, one for each half, with Beck featuring in the second 45 minutes.

The 18-year-old left-back, who is the great nephew of Liverpool legend Ian Rush, provided the cross which resulted in the decisive goal of the game.

When asked if it almost felt like scoring himself, Beck told Liverpoolfc.com : “Yeah, thank you.

“I saw the ball came down the line and I only had one thing in my mind really, which was to cross.

"Happy to get the win – maybe class it as an assist!”

Beck says he’s also keen to learn from fellow left-back Andy Robertson, who recently linked up with the Liverpool pre-season squad in Austria.

The teenager says he’s excited to work with the Scotland international, and has also picked up advice from Kostas Tsimikas.

“I can’t wait for him to start training and I can take a few things out of his game and put them into mine,” said Beck.

“And even with Kostas now, I’m learning a lot from Kostas.”
