Liverpool starlet's injury blow could scupper loan exit as Swansea City, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough eye move

An injury to reported Swansea City target Nat Phillips could scupper his chances of sealing a loan move away from Liverpool.

Swans boss Steve Cooper is determined to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window and centre back is believed to be an area of concern for the manager.

Having lost Mike van der Hoorn and Ben Wilmot in the summer, Swansea are incredibly light at centre-back. West Ham, too, are believed to be sniffing around Wales international Joe Rodon.

And if the Swans are to continue to use three central defenders, they are in dire need of additional options at the heart of their defence.

It was reported earlier in the window that Swansea, as well as Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, Bristol City, Stoke City, Millwall and Middlesbrough, were mulling over making a move for 23-year-old Phillips.

Jurgen Klopp is thought to be keen on moving a number of players out of the club before the transfer window ends — the international window closes on October 5 but the domestic-only window is open until October 16 — with Phillips, as well as Wales internationals Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn, believed to be included in the potential exodus.

Phillips is certainly someone who could bolster the Swans' options at centre back, but, it seems, the player might miss out on a move all together in this window.

Goal now report Phillips is suffering with an injury problem which might keep him stuck at Anfield until after Christmas.

It means Cooper might have to turn elsewhere if he is to add in that department moving forward.

Interest in Blackburn's Derrick Williams remains, although, as with other targets, it appears unlikely that a swoop for the Republic of Ireland international will happen in the coming days given that Rovers will command a seven-figure fee for the defender.
