Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster explains why he was pictured wearing rival colours

Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster has revealed the reason he was pictured wearing a West Ham United tracksuit in a photo of him and Steven Gerrard.

The 19-year-old recently shared a throwback image of himself and the Reds legend to his Instagram, which led to many fans assuming he supported the Hammers.

But speaking to Mirror Football at the FIFA 20 World Premiere, Brewster explained: "That was when I was younger, about six or seven.

"I was on trial at West Ham and I went to a game, it was West Ham vs Liverpool and obviously I took a picture with him - oh and by the way I'm not a West Ham supporter! I don't know where everyone got that from.

"I have always wanted to be a footballer, and it was Gerrard! Who knew I was going to be at Liverpool one day?"

Brewster also revealed the Rangers boss' reaction to the photo.

The Under-17s World Cup winner added: "He said 'It's mad'. "He didn't know who the hell I was back then - I knew who he was.

"I mean you see how small the world is. If you had said to me I would be at Liverpool about ten or fifteen years later I would have been like 'What', and yet here I am."
