Liverpool starlet pens first professional contract following impressive start to new season

Jake Cain has taken the next step in his burgeoning career by signing a first professional contract with the club.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who has been at the Academy since the age of nine, has become a key figure for the under-18s.

Wigan-born Cain was an integral part of the Liverpool side that won the FA Youth Cup on penalties against Manchester City last season.

Cain has been a regular for Barry Lewtas' U18s this season and has claimed several assists already as well as three goals, including one in the 5-2 defeat at Manchester City.

He was given his debut at U18 level by then coach Steven Gerrard when an U16 player in February 2018.

"Jake has been a real consistent performer for two years now,” says Lewtas. “He is starting to add goals to his game.”

In the U18 Premier League last season, the youngster claimed nine assists and scored two goals in 16 appearances.

Cain is a part of the UEFA Youth League squad which travelled to Napoli on Monday.
