Xherdan Shaqiri hailed the efforts of his Switzerland team-mates after his side’s dramatic Euro 2020 penalty shoot-out win over France.
The Swiss had been seconds away from elimination during 90 minutes, but booked their place in the final-eight after K ylian Mbappe saw his effort from 12-yards saved.
Haris Seferovic headed the Swiss ahead in the first half, but after Ricardo Rodriguez's penalty was saved by Hugo Lloris, France turned the game on its head.
Karim Benzema scored twice before Paul Pogba’s screamer made it 3-1 to Didier Deschamps’ side with 15 minutes remaining.
Seferovic then reduced the arrears with nine minutes to go before substitute Mario Gavranovic hammered in a last-minute equaliser for the Swiss.
And after both sides successfully converted the first nine spot kicks of the shoot-out, Mbappe saw his effort saved by Yann Sommer, sparking wild celebrations from the Swiss.
Taking to Twitter in the immediate aftermath of the game, Shaqiri wrote: “This Team #HoppSchwiiz.”
While Mbappe, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool over the past year, also took to social media after the game to apologise for missing the decisive penalty in the shoot-out.
"I'm sorry about this penalty. I wanted to help the team but I failed," the PSG forward wrote on Instagram.
"It's going to be hard to sleep after this, but unfortunately these are the ups and downs of this sport that I love so much.
"The most important (thing) will be to get back up again even stronger for future commitments. Congratulations and good luck to the Swiss team."
While France boss Didier Deschamps said on the miss: "Nobody can be annoyed with him. When you take the responsibility, it can happen. He is obviously very affected by it."
Shaqiri's side will now face Thiago Alcantara's Spain in the quarter-finals after Luis Enrique's men edged past Croatia 5-3 at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.
