Liverpool star who is about to work with Marcelo Bielsa warned of what to expect

Marcelo Bielsa has landed his first job back in football after being sacked by Leeds United, which will see him working closely with one Liverpool player.

Bielsa was relieved of his duties at Elland Road in February of last year after a poor run of results raised relegation fears, athough the majority of Leeds fans were sad to him him depart after his significant role in bringing the club back to the top flight of English football.

Laying low since his departure, the 67-year-old is now ready for a new challenge after agreeing to become the new national team manager of Uruguay. This comes after Diego Alonso's resignation on the back of La Celeste failing to make it past the group stages at the World Cup in Qatar.

Signing a contract until 2026, Bielsa will soon be coaching Darwin Nunez. The Reds forward, already working with one world-class coach at club level, will be hoping to benefit from learning from another individual who is highly-respected for his unique training methods and methods in matches.

Nunez has scored 15 goals and registered four assists in his first season on Merseyside, in what has been a mixed campaign for the former Benfica man. The 23-year-old will be hoping to nail down a starting spot next term and could see his game taken to the next level as he prepares to begin operating under 'El Loco' on the international stage.

One striker who reaped the rewards of his management was Leeds forward Patrick Bamford, who described in 2020 his experience of learning from the Argentine. "So demanding, I can’t lie," he said of Bielsa. "Some days you would want to argue with him and there’s days you can’t give everything as much as you want to, you’d get angry and bite your lip. He demanded so much from me, but it shows respect.”
