Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk sent message of support by former Manchester United star Memphis Depay

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has been sent a message of support by former Manchester United man Memphis Depay after his knee injury blow.

The former Celtic centre-back is expected to be out for the season after suffering a ruptured cruciate ligament in the derby draw with Everton.

The injury could also see Van Dijk miss the rescheduled Euro 2020 in the summer, which would be a huge blow for the Netherlands.

And international team-mate Memphis sent a message of solidarity after scoring for Lyon against Monaco.

The former United winger took just 12 minutes to break the deadlock after an assist from Houssem Aouar.

Memphis then unveiled a t-shirt reading 'Virgil, stay strong my brother' as he sent a message to the Liverpool stalwart.

After reaching the Champions League semi-finals last season Lyon have had a tricky start to their Ligue 1 campaign.

A win on Sunday night would only lift them to sixth place, five points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic's Europa League opponents Lille.

Memphis was close to leaving OL in the summer but a deal could not be agreed with Barcelona.
