Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has given his verdict on Spurs' new signing Steven Bergwijn.
The winger has joined Tottenham from PSV Eindhoven in a deal said to be worth around £27million.
Bergwijn has made an impressive start to his career in the Netherlands, with a host of teams linked to the 22-year-old across the last year, with Spurs ultimately winning the race for his signature.
He has picked up nine caps for the Dutch national team after representing them at Under-17s, Under-18s, Under-19s, Under-20s and Under-21s levels, and has played alongside Van Dijk.
And the Liverpool defender says that, while the young winger can already be considered a great player, he needs to show it on the pitch for Spurs.
And with the right application and a bit of patience, Bergwijn can be a big success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
"Yes, he’s a great player," the Liverpool defender said. “He has to be otherwise he wouldn't have made the transfer.
"But it’s all about showing it on the pitch also. So he has to work hard, enjoy also the moment and progress and be patient as well.
"If that's the case in the next six months, then it will benefit us in the Euros as well."
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has been chasing another striker in the transfer window, with negotiations over the likes of Islam Slimani, Olivier Giroud and Krzysztof Piatek rumoured - though the Poland international has since agreed a move to Hertha Berlin.
However, Bergwijn could be the only significant incoming transfer - other than the announcement of Giovani Lo Celso on a permanent deal.
