Liverpool star Virgil Van Dijk backs out-of-sorts Mo Salah rediscover scoring touch

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has backed Mo Salah to break out of his current barren run, insisting any team in the Premier League would love to have him.

The Egyptian has now gone seven games without a goal in all competitions, his longest dry spell since arriving at Anfield. His current run of five league games without scoring is his worst league drought since January 2016, when he was still at AS Roma.

Salah’s all-round game has also looked out of sorts recently, and he was criticised for being selfish by some fans during Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham.

The 26-year-old has not been selected for Egypt’s games against Niger and Nigeria during the international break, and Van Dijk expects his teammate to back firing when domestic football returns.

“Mo is a world-class player,” Van Dijk told the club website.

“People can say all they want but I think all the teams in the Premier League would love to have him in their side. We have him and I think he is playing well.

“The goals will come. That’s something for a striker that is maybe going to be in your head but we tell him every time: you just need to keep working, keep going and you will be fine.”
