Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold on why facing Everton is bigger than Manchester United

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has opened up on why he believes the Merseyside derby against Everton is bigger than facing Manchester United.

Liverpool have a deep-rooted rivalry with United due to their close proximity and the fact that the duo are the two most successful sides in the history of the English top tier.

The Red Devils have won 20 league titles to Liverpool's 18, with the Reds hoping to move one closer to their arch-rivals by landing the Premier League title this season.

But despite the historic and often bitter rivalry, Alexander-Arnold insists Liverpool matches against cross-city neighbours Everton mean more to him.

Everton have not beaten Liverpool since October 2010 when David Moyes oversaw a 2-0 win against Roy Hodgson's side at Goodison Park. And Alexander-Arnold admits they are the games he enjoys the most as a Liverpool player.

The three games that will decide Liverpool and Man City's Premier League title race

"I'd say it's my favourite game (the Merseyside Derby)," Alexander-Arnold says on Thursday night's episode of LFC Later. "Growing up in the city you know more Evertonians than Mancs.

"I'd say the Everton game for me is the bigger.

"I know so many people who support Everton so it's always good to get one over on them.

"It's good as well because we haven't been beaten by them for so long."

Alexander-Arnold was just 11 months old the last time the Blues won at Anfield.
