Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold makes surprise Barcelona admission

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold may have had a large hand in inflicting a devastating defeat upon Barcelona last season, but he admits he does have a soft spot for the Catalan giants.

Alexander-Arnold was a key player in the Reds' epic comeback to beat Barca 4-3 on aggregate in last season's Champions League semi-final.

The full-back created Liverpool's second goal on the night for Gini Wijnaldum, before his now infamous 'corner taken quickly' allowed Divock Origi to complete the most remarkable turnaround to book the Reds' place in the final.

Liverpool won that match 2-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid, and the Reds now stand on the verge of adding the Premier League title to their haul when football eventually resumes.

But while he remains Liverpool through and through, Alexander-Arnold admitted he does hold a candle for Barcelona during an interview with GQ magazine.

When the local lad was asked if he had a team other than Liverpool, he said: "Growing up I was Celtic, but now, because of the [Steven Gerrard] connection, I’m probably neutral up there now.

"But I’d say my favourite other team would be Barca. I feel as though they’ve got kind of the same values and beliefs as Liverpool."

Any Reds fans concerned that Alexander-Arnold could angle for a move to Catalonia at some point in his career needn't worry though.

When asked by interview Alastair Campbell if he thought he's stay at Liverpool for his whole career he said yes.

"It’s (leaving) not something I’ve ever really thought about," he added.

"I’ve always loved Liverpool. I’ve always supported them. I’ve always played for them. So, I’ve never had that reason to think about it.

"Yeah, still now, I wouldn’t sit there in my room and daydream about playing somewhere else.

"Right now, I’m a Liverpool player. I love the club more than anything. I love everything about it. I love the fans, the people. I love the city. So, no, why would I think about that?"
