Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara left out of Spain squad as injury absence goes on

Thiago Alcantara has been left out of the Spain squad for the upcoming international break.

The Liverpool midfielder hasn't played since the Merseyside derby on October 17, missing five games in total for the Reds so far.

Thiago will also be absent from Sunday's visit to Manchester City where Jurgen Klopp's men will look to go eight points clear of their rivals in the title race.

And with the La Roja star still struggling with an injury, head coach Luis Enrique has omitted him from his squad for games against Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany.

It is unclear if Liverpool have asked Spain to leave Thiago out but the 29-year-old will instead focus on getting fit on Merseyside over the next fortnight.

Thiago was injured by Richarlison in the 2-2 draw with Everton last month.

The Blues forward was given a straight red card for the high challenge and while Thiago was able to complete the game, he hasn't featured for the champions since.

Thiago was taken for scan after the game alongside team-mate Virgil van Dijk as both players were checked over after shocking tackles from Richarlison and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, respectively.

He has been fit enough to play a part in light training at Melwood but has not worked with his team-mates since suffering the injury at Goodison Park three weeks ago.

Liverpool were hopeful that the issue was not a serious one after initially checking on the problem in the wake of the feisty and controversial clash at Goodison last month.

However, the former Bayern Munich star has not been in a match-day squad since and will not play a part for Spain for their three games later this month.

Instead, Thiago will now likely focus his efforts on declaring his fitness in time for Liverpool's visit from Leicester on November 21.
