Liverpool star Sadio Mane's selfish reason for wanting Aston Villa to avoid relegation

Sadio Mane has declared that he wants Aston Villa to stave off relegation - so he can continue to score against them.

Villa are in a dog fight with Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford at the bottom of the Premier League - with the Villans currently in the drop zone, just a point behind the Hornets.

Their situation was worsened on Sunday as they lost 2-0 to Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield.

Villa had held off the Reds for 71 minutes before winger Mane bagged his sixth goal in as many appearances against the Midlands side, before youngster Curtis Jones added a second late on.

Mane has a good history against Villa - with his league record for the fastest hat-trick coming against the club while at Southampton.

Those good memories have given the Sengeal ace a soft spot for Villa.

"We pushed as a team until the end and created some chances. It wasn't an easy game but at least we deserved these three points," Mane told Sky Sports.

"I think sometimes you can't expect always to score five or four against a good opponent. They were really organised and we were playing patiently until the gaps opened and we scored the two goals.

"I think it's a lucky team for me, I'm always scoring and hopefully they stay up so I can score more goals next season for the team.

"For us right now it is most important to win games, then you can think about records.

"We have important games and we will try to play game by game. It won't be easy but that is the Premier League - it is always difficult."
