Liverpool star Sadio Mane named Premier League’s biggest victim of VAR

Sadio Mane has been named the biggest victim of VAR in the Premier League.

New research has shown that the Liverpool star has been punished by VAR the most times in the Premier League, having one goal ruled out himself and two more Reds goals overturned due to his actions.

The forward was the victim of a VAR decision last weekend as he saw a goal ruled out for offside after heading home Andy Robertson's free-kick against Brighton & Hove Albion.

With the score at 1-0, Mane thought he had secured victory for his side, only for his header to be ruled out, allowing Brighton the chance to equalise late on through another controversial VAR call.

Despite that being the only goal Mane has had overturned due to VAR, two more Reds goals have been ruled out due to the 28-year-old's actions.

Mane's elbow was controversially adjudged offside by the narrowest of margins late on in October's 2-2 draw with Liverpool, meaning Jordan Henderson's winning goal was overturned.

The forward was also adjudged to have fouled West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianksi in the build-up to Diogo Jota's disallowed goal in October's 2-1 victory.

It means Mane has had the most overruled decisions in the Premier League according to new research from Fantasy5.

How unfortunate Mane has been is up for debate, with both the goal against Brighton and the Fabianski foul generally accepted to be the correct decisions.

Another unfortunate Reds star is Mohamed Salah, who is joint-second in most overturned decisions in the Premier League.

Salah has twice seen goals overturned, being punished by another narrow offside call against Brighton.

The Egyptian star has also seen a goal ruled out for offside against Sheffield United - although this decision was correct.

It could be argued that Salah has been further punished by VAR, seeing a blatant penalty against Aston Villa go unnoticed by video officials.

Overall, the Reds have had the most players to have seen VAR decisions go against them, with seven on the wrong side of video decisions.
