Liverpool star Mohamed Salah 'still hopeful' of playing for Egypt during international break

Mohamed Salah is set to miss Egypt's World Cup qualifier against Angola next week as Liverpool have made the decision not to release players for international duty whose fixtures will take place in countries currently on the UK government's red list.

With the match against Angola taking place in Egypt, current regulations mean the 29-year-old will have to quarantine for 10 days upon his return, which would make him unavailable for Liverpool's clash against Leeds United on September 12.

Brazilian trio Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho are also unable to travel for their games against Chile, Argentina and Peru as most of South America is currently on the red list.

For Salah, he will be permitted to play in Egypt's second qualifier against Gabon as the nation on the amber list, where he will not be required to isolate when he returns to England.

The Premier League took a unanimous stance earlier this week not to release players for the upcoming international matches in red-list countries.

A statement revealed extensive discussions have already taken place with the FA and the Government to find a solution, but due to ongoing public health concerns relating to incoming travellers from red-list countries, no exemption has been granted.

However, Egypt manager Hossam El Badry is hopeful both Salah and Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny will be available for both fixtures and refuses to give up amid the club v country row.

"There is a chance that if they can't come to Egypt then they can come to Gabon to participate with us," El Badry told Sky Sports News on Friday.

"Of course it's unfair, it's an unfair position because this is qualification for the World Cup and it would be unfair for some teams who can't have all their players, like Egypt or other teams.

"That is what we have said to FIFA to try and get the British authorisation to try and convince them.

"My message to them [the British Government] is that football is very important, and especially in England, they know this. This qualification is very important so they can solve this and they can be sure that after participating with us they don't have to quarantine and can go back to their clubs.

"I'm sure we can find a solution and make it a win-win.

"The players accept this situation, both Elneny and Salah are very keen to come and participate with the team. We talked today and they told me that they hope the issue is solved."
