Liverpool star Mohamed Salah's classy gesture to help Egyptian hometown of Nagrig

Mohamed Salah has helped ease the coronavirus problem in Egypt by donating oxygen tanks to a local hospital.

Working through the Nagrig Charity Association, Salah supplied tanks for patients struggling with COVID-19 in the north African nation.

NCA director Hassan Bakr confirmed to a local radio station in Cairo that Salah had supported the medical facility with its in-take of patients diagnosed with the virus.

After a shortage of oxygen reportedly led to some deaths at the Basyoun Central Hospital, Salah provided the donation.

Bakr is quoted as saying to Cairo Talk: "Salah and his family have donated oxygen cylinders to the Basyoun Central Hospital to help coronavirus patients in Nagrig.

"He often intervenes in problems back in Egypt by donating."

The Liverpool forward has also previously provided funds for residents in his hometown of Nagrig to have an ambulance station installed and purchase facilities for sport at a school.

In April last year, the Reds star reportedly gave thousands of tons of food to help families affected by the spread.

Salah has also previously donated five acres of land to establish a sewage treatment plant in his home village. That helped locals find a stable source of fresh, clean water.

His charitable contributions in his homeland are said to have run close to around half a million pounds, with the NCA seeking to help widows and orphans as well the sick and the elderly in the region.

Sadio Mane is another who is also known to help out in his homeland, with the Liverpool forward donated over £40,000 last year to help the fight against coronavirus in Senegal.

James Milner and Thiago Alcantara both have their own charities while Andy Robertson launched his AR26 Foundation in November also.

Liverpool return to action when they host Manchester United on January 17.
