Liverpool star Jordan Henderson reveals Jordan Pickford's message to Virgil van Dijk after Everton draw

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has revealed that Jordan Pickford apologised for his tackle on Virgil van Dijk after the Merseyside derby.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Michael Keane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were all on the scoresheet during an fiesty match at Goodison Park.

The points were shared in a 2-2 draw but the scoreline certainly doesn't tell the full story, with a number of standout incidents occurring during the game.

Among them was Pickford 's poor challenge on Van Dijk just seven minutes into the match, where the Everton stopper escaped a red card after the offside flag was raised.

That decision has led to plenty of discussions which are unlikely to die down anytime soon and Henderson has said that Pickford apologised after the game.

"Jordan came up and apologised after the game and [told me] to tell Virgil," he told BT Sport after the game.

"I'm very happy with the performance - disappointed we didn't take the three points but we take positives and move on. We always concentrate on what is important and that is the next game and Ajax."

Henderson did, of course, see a late winner ruled out for marginal offside and was asked about the decision after the match.

With a wry smile on his face and a comment that will go down well with the frustrated Liverpool fans, he said: "They bend the lines sometimes to make it offside don't they?"

Liverpool are back in action in midweek against Ajax in the Champions League, as they begin their continental campaign for the season.
