Liverpool star James Milner handed Leeds United advice by former team-mate

Liverpool star James Milner has been urged to return to Leeds United by former team-mate Darren Bent.

Milner is a product of the Whites' Academy setup and went on to make over 50 senior appearances for his boyhood club.

But following the club's relegation to the Championship in 2004, Milner departed Elland Road and joined Newcastle United before a move to Aston Villa followed four years later.

Milner's career has gone from strength to strength since leaving Villa Park in 2010, with the midfielder claiming two Premier League titles and an FA Cup in his five year stay at the Etihad, before claiming the Champions League with Liverpool last season.

And Bent, who played alongside the 33-year-old in the Midlands, believes his former team-mate has unfinished business at Elland Road.

Milner has won almost everything there is to win in the game

“When you’ve got somebody who’s had a decorated career like he has, there’s only one place he can return,” the former England international told Football Insider .

“He was Leeds’ youngest every goalscorer, they love him down there.

“He doesn’t need the money, the money’s out of it, he’s won all the trophies – I almost said bar the Champions League but he’s won that, he’s won everything there is to win. It is fitting for him to go back there and play where it all started and finish his career there.

“He might become captain, he’s obviously going to do a job at a very, very high level, what a story that would be. I’m sure Bielsa would welcome him with open arms. That experience, he keeps himself in great nick, it wouldn’t surprise me if he did return there.”
