Liverpool star issues Premier League title message to Manchester City

Manchester City may have a stranglehold on the Premier League title but one Liverpool star has issued a message ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Pep Guardiola's men eased to win the Premier League last year but it was a much tighter affair last term as Liverpool pushed City all the way.

Liverpool amassed an impressive 97 points, the most by a second-place team in Premier League history, but that didn't stop City going one better and retaining their crown.

However, Liverpool defender Joe Gomez believes the Reds can finally break their barren league run next season, with the club having failed to win the domestic trophy since 1990.

Gomez insists that Jurgen Klopp's troops have recovered from the agony of their title defeat and after winning the Champions League, the squad are rejuvenated and ready to battle City all the way again.

"We can be happy and proud of the achievement (last season) but we’ve got so much more work to do and so many ways to improve as well," Gomez told the club's website.

"The Premier League was so close and I think that’s all the motivation we need, that we were so close but so far at the same time in the fact that we didn’t get it.

"It’s something we want to get this year and to do so we can’t get complacent or dwell on what happened last season, we have to hit the ground running again now."
