Liverpool star Harry Wilson's Dortmund display gets fans talking as Derby boss Phillip Cocu comments on Aston Villa target

Harry Wilson did his chances of featuring for Liverpool's first team next season no harm with an eye-catching performance against Borussia Dormund in America.

Jurgen Klopp's side continued their pre-season preparations with a 3-2 defeat to the German manager's former team on their US tour with Wilson once again playing well.

Klopp has been true to his word this summer, giving Wilson opportunities to stake his claim for Anfield involvement ahead of the new campaign.

He registered the Reds' first goal with a smart finish after a clever dummy from Ryan Kent.

Klopp was impressed. He said: “There were a lot of good moments of football. You can see they are a step further in pre-season than we are but we had to fight and defend these situations.

“There were a lot of good things, but the Dortmund goals, the first one and the second one the second ball after the corner. We scored our two goals which was really nice, especially the first one, and we had the chances.

“What we could learn is that other football teams have very good players as well. Obviously Dortmund have a lot of them and had a lot of solutions. Almost all the positions highest quality and have a really nice squad. It was pretty impressive.”

Both Wilson and Kent are wanted by other sides this summer, with the likelihood being that the 22-year-olds will head out on loan for the 2019-20 season.  Aston Villa, Leeds and Wolves are all reportedly interested in the Welshman.

Wilson spent last term with Derby County under the tutelage of Frank Lampard, and although he has now moved on to Chelsea, links to the Rams remain.

New Pride Park boss Phillip Cocu has commented on the speculation - but the Dutchman isn't exactly hopeful of bringing back Wilson, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori to the East Midlands after stellar campaigns last time out.

"If you look at the value of those players to the team last season, it was very big. But it will be very difficult, I think. I won't say impossible, but it will be hard," said Cocu.

"We are still working to strengthen the team and there are a lot of possibilities still. I don't want to name any names yet, but we are trying to get some players in."

Reds fans had their say on Wilson in the aftermath of the defeat to the Bundesliga side, with the majority hoping he will be given a chance to shine.
