What Real Madrid president said to Fabinho after win over Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho is reported to have had an impromptu chat with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

The Brazilian featured for the Reds in their 3-1 defeat to Los Blancos in their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday night. Fabinho has ties with Madrid, after spending a season there shortly after leaving his homeland of Brazil.

The 27-year-old moved to the Spanish capital in 2012 from Portuguese club Rio Ave, not long after signing from Fluminense.

He would go on to spend just one season in Madrid, making 30 appearances for the Castilla side and just one for the senior team, but featured predominantly at right-back.

Fabinho did spend the bulk of the early stages of his career on the right side of defence, before moving into midfield during Monaco’s run to the Champions League semi-final in 2017 as well as securing a Ligue 1 title.

Perez would have been involved in the deal to bring Fabinho to Madrid in 2012, and the pair are said to have reconnected shortly after Liverpool’s defeat on Tuesday night.

According to Marca, Perez told Fabinho: "With us you played as a right-back.”

"Yes, but to play right-back now... What a player you have in Vinicius," Fabinho responded.

Alongside Fabinho and Perez was Vinicius Jr., who had just scored two goals against Liverpool at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium.
