Liverpool star Darwin Nunez 'on Real Madrid transfer shortlist' after World Cup

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is already being linked with a potential move away from the club.

The Reds signed Nunez from Benfica in the summer, in a deal initially worth £64.1million that could potentially reach £85.5m with add-ons. Should that happen, the 23-year-old would become Liverpool’s club record signing.

Nunez is currently away with the Uruguay squad for the World Cup in Qatar, and is yet to score his first goal of the tournament. Despite this form, the striker is apparently attracting interest from another club.

According to Spanish news outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid have placed Nunez on their shortlist of potential future attacking targets. The report is looking at the possible signings the La Liga giants could make after the World Cup, with the Liverpool forward listed as an option.

The other players listed in the article are Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus, Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison and PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo. All three of these players, along with Nunez, are performing at the World Cup in Qatar.

In the report, it has been claimed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez may want to move for Nunez or one of the other mentioned players in the near future. This is because of the injury to Karim Benzema, which could force the Spanish club into the market for a new forward.

Nunez signed a six-year deal when he became a Liverpool player in the summer, with his contract running until 2028. Since he arrived at Anfield, the striker has scored nine goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.
