Liverpool star Andy Robertson tells Scots boy battling cancer 'You'll never walk alone pal" in sweet video message

A Scots boy battling cancer 'cried with happiness' after receiving a video message from Liverpool FC star Andy Robertson who told him "You'll never walk alone, pal".

Ace Ward, 6, who has B-Cell Acute Lymphobastic Leukaemia was overcome with emotion after the Scottish international sent him a personal video message.

But it wasn't just Celtic and Liverpool-daft Ace who was reduced to tears after watching the video after mum Vicky said the whole family, including Ace's dad Brian, 38, were crying.

She told the Record: "I just heard all this shouting and screaming and ran through to Ace's room and everyone was crying. Brian was worse than the kids. We were all sobbing it was such a special moment."

Ace Ward, from Irvine, Ayrshire, captured our hearts back in March when we told how he overcame his fear of losing his hair after rounds of chemotherapy by saying 'I'll have a Broony!', just like his bald Hoops hero Scott Brown.

Vicky says the family go to Liverpool twice a year to watch the football club in action, but due to Ace's illness and Covid-19, they have been unable to make their regular trip.

Ace's dream came true thanks to hospital volunteer John Byrne, who runs the John Byrne Foundation.

John contacted Ace's hero Scott Brown and football stars Kris Boys and Robert Snodgrass who pulled some strings and got their famous pal to send Ace a special message.

Vicky said: "John is amazing. The things he has done for not just Ace but all those kids in the hospital is just incredible."

In the message the Liverpool left back says: "Hi Acey, hope you're well pal. It's Andy Robertson here. I've heard you're a big Celtic and Liverpool fan, which is amazing, but I've heard you've not been through the best of times just now and you're just going on to your last block of chemotherapy.

"So, I wish you all the best with that and then I wish you a lifetime of happiness and healthiness. And I'll hopefully see you soon. You'll never walk alone, pal."

Ace turned six last week and was delighted with his giant birthday cake which included of the youngster's favourite characters including Hulk, Ninjago, Deadpool, Ironman and Captain America and even stood taller than him.

The youngster now has some tough weeks ahead of him as he starts his fourth, final and most aggressive bout of chemotherapy.

Vicky said: "We are just about to start round four and this will be a really tough one. The hardest one yet. It's very aggressive and so hard on Ace but he is such a wee warrior he will come through it. We are with him every step of theway."
