Liverpool star Andy Robertson slammed by Scotland fans for performance vs Russia

Scotland fans have been laying into Andy Robertson for his poor performance in the defeat by Russia.

The Liverpool left-back captained his country in the Euro 2020 qualifying match, which the Tartan Army lost 2-1.

Robertson, who was named in FIFA's Team of the Year last season, made a costly mistake that directly led to a goal against Russian.

And fans have taken to Twitter to voice their frustration following the defeat, which leaves Scotland's hopes of automatically qualifying for the 2020 competition in tatters.

"Andy Robertson is vastly overrated," tweeted one fan, while another added: "Andy Robertson isn't a very good footballer. He's gets hyped way above his level."

A third said: "And that is why Robertson should never be ahead of Greg Taylor," and a fourth concluded: "There's your Andy Robertson, still can't defend."

Scotland took the lead through John McGinn against Russia before poor defending lead to an Artem Dzyuba equaliser before half time.

Russia went ahead for the first time after the break when Kilmarnock defender Stephen O'Donnell put through his own net.

"The second goal was on me. I thought we had safe possession," said O'Donnell after the match. "But I have worked with the manager long enough and I know I need to be inside my man.

"He doesn't need me to be pushing that high up the pitch and I don't know why I went that high. That was early doors and we didn't need to be chasing it that early.

"I was caught high and then their quality in the final third can hurt us and it certainly did.

"It's knowing when to go. The manager wants us to stay, but I didn't. There were times when I was poor on the ball and that is going to happen.

"There are going to be mistakes, but that one is bread and butter and I was punished because I was too high. It was given as an OG? That sums it up.

"I was back scrambling and it's disappointing. But that’s football. If I was there again I would try and clear the ball again."
