Liverpool star Andy Robertson not on the verge of signing new contract

Andy Robertson is not on the verge of signing a new Liverpool contract.

The Scot has today been the subject of reports suggesting he is about to pen fresh terms with the Reds, but Standard Sport understands those suggestions are wide of the mark.

After a slow start to his Anfield career following a summer 2017 move from Hull City, Robertson has established himself as a key man in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

However, talks over extending a heavily incentivised deal that runs until 2021 are not considered a priority as things stand.

Klopp is delighted with Robertson’s development since his move to Merseyside, while the player himself is happy at Anfield.

As such, reports suggesting the Scotland captain is agitating for new terms have left both parties bemused.

No new contract announcements are expected from Liverpool before 2019, including the deal recently agreed but not yet signed by Sadio Mane.

Instead, Klopp’s squad are fully focused on a crucial run of festive fixtures that sees them face Wolves, Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester City.
