Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Perrie Edwards announce birth of first child

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has become a father after his long-term girlfriend Perrie Edwards gave birth on Saturday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was absent from Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League as Anfield hosted its first capacity crowd for a competitive fixture in almost 18 months.

Pop singer Perrie confirmed that she had given birth to the couple’s first child and shared the first images of the baby on her Instagram page on Sunday morning.

The announcement came hours after fans had suspected that the 28-year-old had gone into labour with Oxlade-Chamberlain, also 28, being pulled out of the Reds fixture against the Clarets due to ‘personal reasons.’

The South Shields-born star, from girl group Little Mix, shared black and white photographs of the baby’s hands and feet, along with the caption: “Welcome to the world little one.”

England international Oxlade-Chamberlain, who joined Liverpool from Arsenal for £35million on August 31 2017, has been dating Edwards since February of the same year.

His time at Anfield has been hampered by injuries with multiple ligament damage to his knee suffered in the 2018 Champions League semi-final second leg against Roma keeping him out for the majority of the 2018/19 season.

He battled back to play 43 times, scoring eight goals in Liverpool’s 2019/20 Premier League title-winning campaign, but turned out on just 17 occasions last term, netting once.
