Liverpool stance on Thiago as Bayern Munich 'try to drum up bidding war' for midfielder

Liverpool have not opened talks over a transfer for Thiago Alcantara, despite reports that have emerged today.

Reports in Germany have suggested the Reds have made contact with the Bundesliga champions over a move for the Spain international, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield this summer.

Bayern are said to have dropped their valuation for the 29-year-old down to around £27million, with Liverpool having been reported as willing to pay just over £22million.

But the Echo understands the club have not opened talks with Bayern, and the Reds have not moved on their stance that Thiago is not an active target.

The latest development in the saga comes as reports have suggested Manchester City could be in the running to sign the want-away midfielder this summer.

Reports have suggested City’s football director Txiki Begiristain has been pursuing a move for Thiago, although sources at City have poured cold water on the suggestion.

The Manchester Evening News reports that City have no interest in Thiago, and are unlikely to be in the market for a midfielder this summer.

The MEN suggest it could be an attempt to start a bidding war for the player, who looks likely to be on the move from the Allianz Arena in some capacity.

For now though, Liverpool won’t be involved in any chase for the Spaniard.
