Liverpool stance on Alisson Becker return as midfield duo make Melwood decision

Liverpool trio Alisson Becker, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana are all undertaking extra training sessions in an attempt to be in contention for the trip to Manchester United.

Alisson has been absent since limping out of the opening Premier League game against Norwich City on August 9 with a calf problem.

The Brazil international stepped up his rehabilitation last week when he returned to full training alongside the rest of the senior Liverpool squad.

And he has chosen to put in additional work at Melwood this week with goalkeeper coach John Achterberg despite players who are not on international duty being given the week off by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool, though, will not rush Alisson back into action until he is 100% fit having been impressed by the form of stand-in Adrian during his absence.

It means there is no guarantee the Brazilian will be between the sticks when the Reds are next in action at Old Trafford on October 20.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lallana have also opted to forego time off and will instead work on their fitness ahead of a busy raft of fixtures for Liverpool, who play seven games in 21 days including Premier League games at home Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

The duo were omitted from the England squad to face Czech Republic and Bulgaria in their Euro 2020 qualifiers this week.

Adrian, meanwhile, has been praised for the way in which he has acclimatised to life at Liverpool, having been signed on a free transfer just days before replacing the stricken Alisson.

"Since the first day he settled quite well," Gini Wijnaldum told Liverpoolfc.com. "He speaks with everyone and he's a good person, everyone talks with him.

"You could see that he was not shy. Normally when players come in they always look, ‘Who can I talk to?' and everything, but he talks with everyone. Before the game, he says what he wants to say.

"Basically since the day he came in he was already one of us."
