Liverpool squad worth more than Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid

Liverpool now possess the most valuable squad in world football, according to the CIES Football Observatory.

The research group worked out the Reds' squad is worth an aggregated value of €1.4billion (£1.27bn) in the transfer market while Premier League rivals Manchester City are second in the list with a combined total value of £1.24bn.

Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are third and fourth - judged to be worth £1.05bn and £994million respectively - while Chelsea take fifth spot having seen their young talent flourish this term.

The latest figures are an incredible product of the job Jurgen Klopp has done at Anfield in assembling a world-class squad who are the current reigning European Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup holders.

Liverpool are also the runaway Premier League leaders who are just six points away from claiming the title with nine games remaining in the season.

The CIES use a huge amount of variables to determine squad value which they say include "the length of contract remaining with the owner club (the transfer indemnity being de facto a compensation for breach of contract), the age, the international status, career progression, as well as the performances in the different competitions played both for clubs and national teams (minutes, goals, assists, dribbles, passes, etc.)".
