The news of Jordan Henderson extending his Liverpool contract continues the Reds’ summer strategy to tie the core of Jurgen Klopp’s side down for the long-term.
Michael Edwards , the club’s sporting director, has placed a clear priority on securing the futures of the key players that have brought the club so much recent success.
There had been speculation that Henderson could leave the Reds, after it was reported that he was unhappy with the initial terms offered.
However, the 31-year-old has put an end to rumours over a potential move, with his new contract being announced on Tuesday.
Upon signing his new four-year deal, having already served a decade at Anfield after arriving from Sunderland in 2011, he told the club website , “I’m obviously very honoured and proud to continue the journey I’ve already been on here.
“It’s amazing to finally get it done and just concentrate on looking forward and what the future may hold.”

Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Fabinho have all signed long-term deals with the club this summer, while Liverpool are understood to still be in negotiations with several of their other stars.
With a host of big-name players having only two years remaining on their contracts, the club are keen to avoid the trouble they faced in this transfer window, as Gini Wijnaldum was able to join PSG for free.
The Reds’ only new arrival has been Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig, as the club looked for the right gap in the market, while focussing on extending the deals of their title-winning side.
Given the importance the club’s hierarchy has placed on retaining players, here’s a rundown of how long Liverpool’s squad have remaining on their current contracts.
