Liverpool squad and manager Jurgen Klopp fly to US for start of summer tour

The Liverpool players have embarked on their pre-season trip to the United States as Jurgen Klopp continues to prepare his squad for the forthcoming campaign.

The Reds kicked off their summer preparations in the UK as they thumped Tranmere 6-0 at Prenton Park in their first friendly before running out 3-1 winners over Bradford at Valley Parade.

Jurgen Klopp's men have now embarked on a trip Stateside, with the players checking in at Manchester Airport on Tuesday morning.

Among the 28-man travelling squad was star man Virgil van Dijk, who played a crucial role last season as the Reds secured a memorable Champions League crown.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will be looking to hit the ground running this campaign after an injury-hit term last time out, was also present.

Klopp appeared in high spirits as he made his way inside the departures lounge in Manchester, with the Reds boss preparing to continue his side's pre-season preparations.

The Champions League holders, who missed out on an historic Premier League triumph last season, will take on Bundesliga giants Dortmund at the Notre Dame Stadium on July 19.

Liverpool will then face off against the team who beat them in the 2016 Europa League final, Sevilla, at Fenway Park on July 21.

The Reds' pre-season tour concludes on July 24 when they take on Sporting Lisbon in New York at the Yankee Stadium.

Meanwhile another player part of the travelling squad was Simon Mignolet, and Klopp expects the goalkeeper to stay put at Anfield this summer despite falling behind Alisson Becker in the pecking order.

“I’ve had a lot of conversations with him in the last couple of years and months. Before we left we had a talk and I would say yes [he will stay]," said Klopp.

“Yeah. I think it’s because at a club like Liverpool you need two No.1s at least and we have that, that’s cool, with Ali and Simon.

“That’s a very good situation for the club but a situation I think you should have and that’s why everything is fine from my point of view.”

The 28-man travelling squad is as follows : Clyne, Fabinho, Van Dijk, Wijnaldum, Lovren, Milner, Gomez, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana, Mignolet, Brewster, Robertson, Origi, Matip, Kent, Lewis, Phillips, Jones, Hoever, Ojrzynski, Duncan, Woodburn, Wilson, Larouci, Alexander-Arnold, Van den Berg, Atherton.
