Liverpool snub Leeds United transfer talks over treatment of Arsenal striker wanted by Bristol City

Leeds United have been dealt a blow in their search for a replacement for Eddie Nketiah.

Nketiah is set to be recalled by parent club Arsenal following a lack of game time at Elland Road, with Bristol City keen to take the 20-year-old on loan in the second half of the season.

The Robins are keen on two strikers in January, with Nketiah at the top of their list, but they have also been linked with a move for Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster.

There is plenty of competition for Brewster's signature, with Swansea City having made an official approach to take the 19-year-old on loan.

Leeds are also said to be interested in Brewster as a replacement for Nketiah.

Yet the Mirror report that Liverpool have snubbed Elland Road as a potential destination for Brewster due to Leeds' treatment of Nketiah.

Nketiah was finally handed his first league start for Leeds on Sunday, but had previously had to make do with 15 Championship appearances from the bench.

That lack of game time is what alerted the Robins to the fact Arsenal may recall Nketiah in January, and it appears to have been noticed by other clubs, too.

Liverpool are known to be keen for their young players to get game time out on loan, and have previously fined Bristol City due to Ryan Kent failing to make enough appearances when at Ashton Gate in 2017/18.

At the time, Lee Johnson said the Robins had fallen into Liverpool's bad books over the failed loan, but this relationship appears to have mended.

Robins CEO Mark Ashton recently told Bristol Live that the Robins had a 'first class' relationship with the top clubs.

He said: "It would be remiss in me to tell you everything, but I'm telling you we are consistently talking to, meeting with, presenting to the biggest clubs in the country.

"Our relationship with those clubs is first class."

It means that, should the Robins retain an interest in Brewster, then their treatment of Kent will not come back to haunt them in the same way it appears Leeds could regret Nketiah's lack of game time.
