Liverpool situation and form leaves new signing Diogo Jota feeling bitter

New Liverpool star Diogo Jota says it is a 'bitter' feeling to not be able to play in front of fans at Anfield after his blistering start to life on Merseyside.

The Premier League champions caused a slight shock in the summer when they signed Jota from Wolves for around £41million but the transfer has so far proven to be a masterstroke.

The Portuguese attacker has scored seven goals in 11 appearances and threatening to break the established trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

But with the coronavirus pandemic and the second period of lockdown preventing fans from attending games, Jota is yet to play in front of a packed out Kop.

And the 23-year-old admits that is the only downside to what has been a seamless start.

Jota said: "When I first signed at Anfield, I was asked what my feeling was and I said for it to be perfect, I had to play in a full stadium to have that even more special feeling.

"It feels bitter not being able to feel the atmosphere of Anfield.

"I try not to think about a long future. I came here to do my best, I didn't aim for anything in particular and when that is the case, there are no disappointments or surprises.

"I'm in one of the best teams in the world, if not the best, so I have to take advantage of that.

"And looking ahead, if I am focused, I know that I will have many opportunities.

" Liverpool have great players and I came here to be one more and help to win titles - especially because I don't have as many as they do!"
