Liverpool sign England prospect as Jurgen Klopp reacts to Champions League group of death

Bobby Clark sends out classy message after signing for Liverpool

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Newcastle academy talent Bobby Clark on Thursday, after several weeks of negotiations.

The 16-year-old has played at England youth level and made his U18 debut for the Magpies, aged just 14.

Son of former Newcastle midfielder Lee Clark, the Reds new recruit plays in an attacking midfield role and is another sign of Liverpool’s focus on youth recruitment.

Both Harvey Elliott and Kaide Gordon are examples of big-money signings at youth level who have been welcomed into the first team picture, with Elliott handed his first Premier League start last weekend.

After the club’s interest in Clark became known last month, it is clear to see that the Reds were eager to get the teenager on board.

Upon completing his move, the midfield prospect wrote a message thanking Newcastle for their help, before sending a classy message to Liverpool fans.

'I laughed' - Jurgen Klopp reacts after 'tough' Liverpool Champions League draw

Liverpool have learned their group stage opponents after the Champions League draw took place on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been reunited with La Liga title winners Atletico Madrid after the two sides met in the quarter-finals in 2020, as well as former champions Porto and AC Milan.

Having only faced the Italian side twice before in their history, both coming in Champions League finals, the first came during that famous night in Istanbul, before the rematch in 2007.

"I laughed, to be honest, pretty loud because it is a tough group obviously," the Liverpool boss admitted to the club website, when hearing of their opponents.

“It's Champions League, so that's how it is, and you have to play the best teams in Europe, and obviously some of them are in our group!”

The Reds search for a seventh European Cup will get underway on September 14-15, as they look for the best route out of their ‘group of death’.
