Liverpool shirt numbers yet to be filled ahead of January transfer window

The January transfer window is now just around the corner and Liverpool are already being linked with numerous players.

The Reds are unlikely to do big business in the winter window - it's just not Jurgen Klopp's way - but that won't stop the rumour mill from churning out repeated transfer stories.

But should Reds boss Klopp decide he does need reinforcements in January, then what numbers are available to any recruits?

There are a few still going spare.

The number 16 shirt remains vacant, having been occupied by Marko Grujic previously. The Serbian midfielder is currently on loan at Hertha Berlin.

The same shirt was most famously worn by Didi Hamann during his time at Anfield, but other owners include the likes of Sean Dundee, Jermaine Pennant and Sebastian Coates.

Number 17 is another available. Last worn by Ragnar Klavan, the shirt was occupied by Steven Gerrard early in his Anfield career, as well as the likes of Craig Bellamy, Mamadou Sakho, Maxi Rodriguez, Paul Ince and Steve McManaman.

Alberto Moreno's departure in the summer has also left the number 18 shirt free. Dirk Kuyt, John Arne Riise and Michael Owen all had this number at one time.

The numbers 19 and 21 are also available. Sadio Mane used to occupy the 19 shirt before switching to the number 10 while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also moved from 21 to 15.

Not many players have worn the number 25 shirt for the Reds. Pepe Reina was the last man to have the number after it had been worn by Igor Biscan, Neil Ruddock and David Thompson.

Numbers 28, 29 and 30 are also free but it is perhaps more common now for players to pick bigger shirt numbers. Trent Alexander-Arnold wears the number 66 for example and Harvey Elliott has 67.
